If so, can I install and run software on a single Raspberry Pi to make it all work? Would a Raspberry Pi be powerful enough (4GB RAM model) to accomplish all of the above? Then I would need to buy a second Raspberry Pi to accomplish other server functions (I think?). I am more adverse to this solution because the OS is not as nice to use/look at, and it could only be used as a file server. Use the Raspberry Pi as an "Apple TV" itself using Kodi. For the media server, I would use Plex and play it back on an Apple TV 4K (future purchase). Install Raspbian (or another Linux OS) and run whatever software I needed to accomplish the above (Plex, Pi-hole, Time Machine software, etc.). Here is what I potentially thought I could do:īuy a Raspberry Pi 4 and 3.5" drive bay enclosure ( like this), install a few TB of storage and use it as the server itself. I currently do not have any hardware that I can use as a dedicated server, so I would need to buy. Increasing internet security (not sure how this would be accomplished, but I've see some people talk about it on here VPN for remote access to files (most likely not for remote video playback Time Machine backups - 2 Macs connected which I would like to regularly back up Home file server - share and store files across computer connected to my network Home media server - ability to play back 1080p and 4K content on a TV (Plex or Kodi) I would like the following to be accomplished in order of importance: I'm looking to create a home server for personal use only.
